The Center for Child Development started in 1970 through the initiative of the then University President Dr. Gloria D. Lacson.
It was formerly the Vanessa Ann Kindergarten in honor of the granddaughter of Rev. Lauro Marquez who donated the initial cash fund for the department.
In February 1991, through the leadership of Prof. Mildred T. Ancheta, the department was awarded with Level 1 accreditation status along with the Elementary Department by the Association of Christian Schools and College-Accrediting Agency Incorporated.
In September 1995, the Vanessa Ann Kindergarten achieved Level II (Five Years) Re-accreditation Status – the highest accreditation status for Preschool, from the Association of Christian Schools and College-Accrediting Agency Incorporated.
In response to the changing needs of children’s learning, the Vanessa Ann Kindergarten was converted into the Wesleyan Montessori School in 1997; and in November 15, 1997, the Patrocino S. Ocampo Building was dedicated to house the Wesleyan Montessori School. Prof. Lucille Grace Hilario was designated as the head of the Preschool Department.
In 2000, through the initiative of the Wesleyan Administration, Prof. Angelina P. Juan was invited to initiate new programs in Early Childhood Education. The child-centered philosophy was adopted in teaching Kindergarten. The Wesleyan Montessori School evolved and was renamed the CENTER FOR CHILD DEVELOPMENT.
In 2005, the Center for Child Development was merged with the Elementary department under the supervising principal, Prof. Mildred T. Ancheta. Teachers of the program were deaconesses and workers of the United Methodist Church who have specializations in teaching early childhood education.
In 2009, with the new Board of Trustees, Prof. Lucille Grace C. Hilario was appointed Supervisor of the Preschool Program. In 2012, Dr. Lucille Grace C. Hilario was also appointed as Principal of the Elementary Department. The philosophy and curriculum of the program was revisited and the “Whole Child” as a product of the curriculum was envisioned.
In 2018, Prof. Cristy M. Fernando was appointed as the Principal of Preschool Department and Elementary Department.
