ABOUT CHARLES WESLEY SCHOOL OF MUSIC

The Charles Wesley School of Music is one of the newest academic units of Wesleyan University-Philippines. Having been recently established on October 2021, it is the brainchild of Hon. Judge Benjamin D. Turgano, the institution’s 12th president. The college is one of the first institutions to offer accredited, high-quality music programs in the Central Luzon Region (Region III). The school caters to prospective students not only in this region but also to the entire northern section of mainland Luzon.

Having been formally opened just this year, the Charles Wesley School of Music focuses on practical skills-based musicianship and scholarship paired with Christian education, thus preparing its future graduates for meaningful careers in performance, pedagogy, music production, and ministry. It also houses four active resident performing groups: The WUP Chamber Singers, the WUP Concert Band, the WUP Dance Troupe, and TELON (Teatrong Laan Para sa Obra Ngayon).

ACADEMIC MERIT

The Wesleyan University-Philippines is one of the largest autonomous higher educational institutions established in the country. Since its inception on 1946, it has held a principal position especially amongst Christian universities and colleges. The recently founded Charles Wesley School of Music stands as a testimony of the university’s commitment to service – a service focused on educating, preserving culture and heritage, and spreading Christ’s gospel through music. The Filipino’s inherent love for music, both in vocal and instrumental performance, has been exhibited and acknowledged around the world through various platforms – television, radio, musical theater, and social media. In this regard, the Charles Wesley School of Music stands at an opportune time and place to deliver quality music education as the first college of music in Region III – serving Nueva Ecija and its surrounding environs.

In the Philippines, the reality of completing a four (4) year baccalaureate music program is a difficult endeavor to accomplish considering the many challenges a student and his/her family has to deal with: economic, geographical access, and time-related hindrances. The Associate of Arts in Music program offers an opportunity for musically-inclined prospect students from Central and Northern Luzon to make their musical endeavors easier to realize. The program, with its focus on practical music-making skills, enables its graduates to immediately find opportunities to work in the music industry and its allied fields, either as performers or teachers, after completing the course in two (2) years. Graduates of this program may opt to continue their studies by adding two (2) more years to fully finish a Bachelor of Music degree.

MISSION

For the glory of God, the Charles Wesley School of Music is an institution of higher learning dedicated to educating, inspiring, and empowering the musicians of today and tomorrow to be their best – both personally and professionally.

VISION

As a higher institute of learning, the Charles Wesley School of Music is to be the leading center of excellence in Music performance and scholarship in central and northern Luzon.
