In the recognition of perseverance and service, and spirit of gratitude, Wesleyan University-Philippines (WUP) staged a theatrical concert titled “Sa Likod ng Manibela: Isang Pagpupugay sa Dedikasyon at Paglilingkod ng mga Tricycle Drivers” as part of its 80th Founding Anniversary celebration on February 5, 2026, at the JJDG Auditorium.

The program opened with a series of playacts centered on the themes of success and blessings that marked the University’s 80-year journey. Setting a heartfelt tone for the afternoon, the performance featured the story of Juan, a tricycle driver whose daily struggles were brought to life by TEatrong Laan para sa Obra Ngayon (TELON).

University President Dr. Irineo Alvaro, Jr. welcomed the guests and expressed his appreciation for the strong partnership between the University and the tricycle drivers. In his message, he highlighted how their collaboration led to positive changes within the community, noting improved trust, safety, and mutual respect between the University and its neighboring stakeholders.

Moreover, Veteran actor Leo Martinez—founder of Repertory Philippines (REP) in 1967, and widely recognized for his role as Cong. Manik Manaog—also shared his thoughts during the program. His remarks brought warmth to the event, punctuated by humor and engaging anecdotes that delighted the audience.

After the performance, Martinez met with the TELON actors for a brief meet-and-greet, where he also announced a forthcoming partnership with WUP for an acting workshop titled “No Acting Please – The Eric Morris Method,” which focuses on truthful and natural performance.

The concert also showcased original song compositions. Juan Manggagawa and Tricycle Driver, written by the University President, served as key musical highlights. Additional pieces—including Wesleyan Toda, Liham, Dangal, Sa Bawat Sakay, and Mister Driver—were composed by Prof. Mark Anthony Miranda, Director of TELON.
