Newborn screening, mandated under Republic Act 9288 or the Newborn Screening Act of 2004, aims to detect and treat certain congenital conditions at the earliest possible stage, providing Filipino children with a healthier start in life.
WUP-Hospital management noted the recognition affirms the institution’s commitment to quality maternal and child healthcare. “This recognition is a testament to WUP Hospital’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the health and future of Filipino children. By consistently ensuring the prompt and proper collection of newborn screening samples, the hospital continues to play a vital role in the government’s mission to prevent congenital disorders that may lead to lifelong disabilities or even death if left undetected,” the hospital said in a statement.
The hospital further acknowledged the contribution of its staff in sustaining the program’s success. “This recognition was made possible through the dedication and commitment of Ms. Roxanne M. Valino, Head Nurse of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Newborn Screening Coordinator, whose efforts have greatly contributed to WUP-Hospital’s continued excellence in Newborn Screening services,” it added.
