Wesleyan University–Philippines (WUP) and the Municipal Government of Lubang Island signed a Memorandum of Agreement to work together on programs that would directly benefit the local community of Occidental Mindoro on January 23, 2026.Through the partnership, the University and the Lubang Island LGU would cooperate on health programs and medical missions, activities that strengthen community and youth participation, scholarship opportunities, and the offering of non-degree certifications and microcredentials. The agreement would also allow WUP students and faculty to take part in service-learning activities.

WUP President Dr. Irineo G. Alvaro Jr. said the partnership would bring education and service closer to the people.

“This partnership allows Wesleyan to serve beyond the campus and work directly with the people of Lubang Island, using education and service to make a real difference in the community,” he said.

Lubang Island Mayor Michael Lim Orayani, who led the local government delegation, said the agreement would give new hope to young people in the municipality.

“This partnership opens new horizons for our constituents, especially the young dreamers of Lubang who want to pursue higher education but need financial support. Today, we are bridging that gap,” Mayor Orayani said.

Both WUP and the Municipal Government of Lubang Island expressed hope that the partnership would lead to long-term programs that would improve lives and strengthen the Lubang Island community.
