Marking the formal transition of the 511 Batch 2028 nursing students into clinical training, Wesleyan University-Philippines (WUP) College of Nursing (CON) held its 52nd Capping, Pinning, Dedication, and Candle Lighting Ceremony on December 5, 2025, at the University Gymnasium.Guest speaker Dr. Christopher Michael D. Parrilla, RN, encouraged students to embrace the challenges of nursing, noting that resilience and passion are essential in the profession.
“Trust the process. Kung may pinagdadaanan kayong mahirap, be resilient and learn from it. Love your profession, and with love, all good things will follow,” he said.
Dr. Parrilla also emphasized that WUP’s training is designed to prepare students for real-world demands, noting, “Your school is preparing you to be future-ready… All of these are preparing you for the challenges ahead.”
Additionally, Dr. Wilfredo C. Ramos, Vice President for Academic Affairs, thanked the partner hospitals for supporting the college in developing students’ competencies.
Drawing inspiration from a known proverb, he stated, “It takes a village to build a child, but for a nurse, it takes a village and many hospitals to build one.”
Meanwhile, College of Nursing Dean Dr. Carissa Juliana R. Balaria reminded the students that receiving their caps, pins, and lamps is a symbolic promise of commitment to patient care; that the ceremony represents a pledge not only to themselves but also to their future patients and the community, saying, “The nurse’s blueprint begins today. This is the moment you start drawing the blueprint of your future.”
The program included memory presentations, followed by the Florence Nightingale entrance and the Capping and Pinning rites, officially welcoming the students into the nursing profession.
The ceremony, conducted in two sessions, included 277 students from Blocks 1–7 in the morning and 234 students from Blocks 8–13 in the afternoon, who were joined by their families and guests in this event.
Batch 2028 concluded the ceremony with optimism, declaring “RN 2029!”
