The College of Nursing hosted its first Grand Case Presentation on April 21, 2025, held at the University Gymnasium which focused on Bridging Theory and Nursing Practice: Integrating Theoretical Knowledge and Critical Analysis Application in Clinical Cases, and provided a platform for Level 3 nursing students to demonstrate their understanding of patient care, linking academic learning with real-world clinical application.

“WUP is the first higher education institution in Nueva Ecija to conduct this kind of initiative,” noted Dr. Carissa Juliana Balaria, Dean of the College of Nursing (CoN).

According to Prof. Archito L. Dela Cruz, CoN faculty and Level 3 Related Learning Experience (RLE) coordinator, the Grand Case Presentation garnered overwhelmingly positive feedback from panelists. He added that it was lauded for the students’ clear communication, professionalism, and profound clinical knowledge.

“This inaugural event set a new benchmark for showcasing student capabilities in the region,” he further stated.

CoN faculty members Prof. Lyka Arma and Prof. Daryll Miralles provided support in the conduct of this event. Level 3 Presidents Ferli Domingo and Juvy Sante served as overall chairpersons and were aided by Kristelle Ann Ferrer, Ian Carl Del Mundo, Zhuqrie Mustapha, Princess Ann Culiao, Kristine Pascua, Pauline Mendiola, and Florecel Evia.

The event drew a diverse audience, including College of Nursing faculty, preceptors from partner hospitals, clinical instructors from the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH) and Philippine Orthopedic Center (POC), 547 Level 1 and 444 Level 2 nursing students.

Medical doctors, nurse leaders, and specialized practitioners from hospitals such as Dr. Paulino J. Garcia Memorial Research and Medical Center, Wesleyan University-Philippines Hospital, Talavera General Hospital, and Eduardo L. Joson Memorial Hospital, who served as panel members, shared insights that elevated the discussions during the presentations.

The students presented three clinical cases that highlighted their understanding of nursing concepts and commitment to ‘compassionate care.’ Each presentation detailed clinical applications while also emphasizing the human element of nursing- empathy and accountability.

“Their ability to articulate complex concepts with confidence and maintain a patient-centered approach was particularly commendable. Panelists recognized the depth of the students’ understanding, which extended beyond mere medical protocols to truly empathetic, individualized care,” underscored Prof. dela Cruz.
The Grand Case Presentation reaffirmed that nursing is more than a technical profession; it is fundamentally about connecting with patients on a personal level, understanding their unique needs, and delivering care with compassion and respect.

“The Level 3 nursing students exemplified the true essence of their profession, embodying values of excellence, service, and empathy, which set the bar high for future competent nurses,” Prof. dela Cruz capped.
