Serving as speaker for the Seminar on Student Discipline titled ‘Fostering Responsibility and Respect: Building a Culture of Self-Discipline Among Students’ by the General De Jesus College (GDJC) on October 28, 2025, Dr. Annie Dinh Maria M. Alfaro, Guidance and Placement Center Director (GPC) of Wesleyan University-Philippines (WUP), highlighted the role of accountability, emotional regulation, and respect for others in the development of well-rounded individuals capable of navigating life’s challenges with integrity and purpose.
In line with the event’s objective of reinforcing positive values, encouraging responsible behavior, and guiding learners to become disciplined and respectful members of the academic community, Dr. Alfaro discussed the importance of self-discipline in shaping the students’ success, personal growth, and future professional conduct.
She lauded the attendees’ attentiveness and participation, sharing, “They did not only ask questions, but many also shared their thoughts and experiences.” She also related GDJC’s anticipation for a similar activity for a broader audience in their community.
This event was organized by the GDJC Behavior Management Office- College Department and was attended by all classroom organization officers.
On its official Facebook page, GDJC noted, “Through interactive discussions and reflective activities, participants gained valuable insights on how discipline not only shapes one’s behavior but also strengthens the collective character of the GJC community.”
Underscoring the collaborative relationship between GDJC and WUP, its current president, Dr. Jeffrey P. Franco, CPA, completed his Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (Magna Cum Laude, 2003) and Master of Business Administration (2011) at WUP.
The event aligned with key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Good Health and Well-Being, Quality Education, and Partnerships for the Goals. Through collaborative efforts and dialogue, the seminar demonstrated the community’s commitment to holistic student development and to strengthening mental health and values education across institutions.
