Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore the performance in chess and in Mathematics of the college players in Cabanatuan City, Philippines. Specifically, it aimed to determine the respondents’ mathematics and chess per-formances, their playing styles and their beliefs regarding chess players and mathematicians. The descriptive correlational research design was utilized in this study and the data gathered by the researcher were tallied and tabulated using frequency, percentage, mean and Pearson’s r. Furthermore, open-ended questions were used to solicit remarks/comments from the respondents regarding the role of chess in enhancing their thinking skills. It was found out that the general weighted average (GWA) in Mathematics of the respondents was above average. Most of them are barangay/school level champions. Males are tactician type of players while females are positional players. A respondent who performed better in higher chess competition also performed better or obtained higher GWA in Mathematics. Furthermore, the respondents believed that a chess player can be a good mathematician especially if they start playing early in life and if chess was a part of the school curriculum since playing chess continuously has helped them in developing and improving their problem solving and critical thinking skills.

Abstract
This study was conducted in the First Semester of AY 2018-2019 to discuss the challenges encountered by the teachers of a National High School in Licab, Nueva Ecija in doing action research. The study revealed that the main challenges encountered by the teachers were: insufficient training and seminar on research; heavy teaching loads; lack of clear role of teachers in the school to conduct research; and busy on personal life. The following recommendations are hereby laid out: the teachers should be encouraged to pursue advance higher education and HEI’s should include action research as part of their basic education curriculum so that the graduates will be knowledgeable about its processes even without pursuing advance higher education right away; the work load of teachers should be lightened to allow them enough time to conduct research. Likewise, the policy makers in the Department of Education may consider allotting a percentage of time for teachers to do research; since profile has no significant relationship with challenges a common research development plan may be considered for implementation in the school level. Echoing of seminars on research may also be considered; and the Department of Education should implement a more efficient system of communicating its research policies and programs down to the teachers’ level.

Abstract
Depression has been associated to be the biggest cause of suicides and death among 15–29-year-olds in the region of Southeast Asia. The World Health Organization (WHO) has already called for mental health practitioners to put a focus and tackle depression as figures from the region among young adolescents who commit suicide increases every year. The global health organization called for everyone – individuals, communities, and countries – to work together and talk more openly about depression. This paper aimed to study how depressed university students resort to self-diagnosis and how this leads to suicidal ideation. To understand the external causes of depression among selected university students, Beck Depression Inventory and Hopkin’s Depression Symptom Checklist were administered to a group of 35 students. An integration of the findings was used as a basis to screen students with clinically significant depression. The qualified students based on the results of both tests were asked if they self-diagnose to screen participants needed for an in-depth interview which aims to gain insight and deeper analysis on why and how they self-diagnose and how taken altogether, their decisions affect their thinking towards suicidal ideation. Results from the interview were analyzed by assigning post priori codes to come up with emerging themes. A focus group discussion was also employed to validate emerging themes that were presented through concept mapping. In conclusion, the study was carried contribute new knowledge that may be used as a basis to draft mental health programmed about depression, self-diagnosis, and suicidal ideation among university students so that they may have an increased mental health literacy about the importance of seeking professional help and support groups that may help them in their condition.

Abstract
This experimental study focused on the production of alternative feeds for broilers chickens using golden apple snail shell as the main ingredient. Three groups were compared and the characteristics of them are as follows: The commercial group was given pure commercial feeds, treatment one group (T1) was given 25% pomaceacanaliculata’s shell that was mixed with 37.5% of rice bran and 37.5% of corn, and the third group which was treatment (T2) was given 50% pomaceacanaliculata’s shell that was mixed with 25% of rice bran and 25% of corn as feed mix.The study found out that golden apple snail shell can be mixed with feeds for broiler production without negative effect on the carcass recovery. It can replace commercial feeds as food for broilers especially if the farm area or area near it were infested by golden apple snail. Although the consumption cost among the treatments and the commercial feed do not differ, it is practical to use T2 as a substitute for commercial feeds since it is less than P3.00 to P5.00 per consumption cost. The findings of this study have valuable financial implications, particularly to the farmers and poultry owners.

Abstract
This study determined the relationship between the load growth and the reliability of an Electric Service Cooperative (ESC) in the Philippines. Statistical research design and documentary analysis were utilized in this research. It was found out that over a period of five years, the demand and energy consumption of the whole franchise area of the respondent ESC power distribution utility has grown significantly. Also, this study disproves that load growth may lead to the overloading distribution lines and equipment and thus, causes power interruptions. Furthermore, demand and energy consumption is not correlated with the frequency and duration of power interruptions. Moreover, this study also revealed that the reliability of the respondent Distribution Utility (DU) does not vary for the period of 5 years. It is recommended that there should be the right way of clearing activities and line rehabilitations should be doneto have a more efficient transfer of energy and to improve the DU’s reliability.

Abstract
This research, anchored on the Value Chain Analysis (VCA) framework, delved at describing the slipper industry in the so-called footwear capital of the North in Nueva Ecija, Philippines, the “Gapan City”. It utilized a descriptive research design and involved 46 slipper manufacturers as respondents. The researchers particularly focused on the industry’s business operation in terms of inputs provision, production, marketing, cost and return analysis, prospects, problems and constraints of the slipper industry. The study revealed that raw materials were mostly from China. The worker turnover rate was high since they were underpaid. Pricing methods employed were cost based, penetration and customer-based pricing. The prime geographical markets of the manufactured slippers were in the City of Gapan and other nearby regions. Many of the slipper manufacturers relied on credit extended by suppliers and other financing and financial institutions, hence causing shrinkage in income. Although this business is profitable, imported slippers from other countries still haunt local slipper manufacturers which were directly competing with their products. With the identification of problems and uncertainties of the slipper industry as concealed in this study, the researchers crafted management strategies to enhance and sustain the competitiveness of the industry which will be of great help for utilization or reference not only of Filipino businessmen but for every slipper entrepreneur in the world. Likewise, the findings of this paper have beneficial repercussions for policy implementation and VCA application in the slipper industry.

Abstract
This research article explored engineering students’ retention and transfer of learning from Trigonometry to Electric Circuit courses. The study used a descriptive quantitative and qualitative research designs. It utilized both written exams and semi-structured interviews to investigate the retention and transfer of learning. Results indicated that students retained their knowledge of the Trigonometry concept before entering an Electric Circuits course but encountered difficulties in transferring retained knowledge in a new context due to difficulty in deciding when to activate appropriate Trigonometry concepts. Likewise, they just follow the formulas given in the electric circuits lecture and did not take into consideration the underlying trigonometric principles used in deriving the formula. Thus, students often resorted to pattern matching while approaching their problems. This study has implications for the instruction of both engineering and mathematics education.
