“This monumental collaboration makes WUP the very first institution in the region to integrate advanced, clinical-grade Virtual Reality (VR) simulation infrastructure directly into its nursing curriculum.” Dr. Carissa Juliana R. Balaria, College of Nursing Dean

Wesleyan University-Philippines (WUP) partnered with the Healthcare and Technology Institute Inc. (HCTI) on May 7, 2026, to launch the Future Ready Nursing Program, setting a new benchmark for nursing education in Central Luzon.

The partnership introduced a multi-million peso state-of-the-art SimLab Buildout. Through this initiative, WUP’s College of Nursing would be equipped with Meta Quest Virtual Reality (VR) headsets powered by advanced UbiSim and SimLab platforms, alongside dedicated high-definition instructional television units.

This ‘cutting-edge’ technology would allow WUP nursing students to step out of traditional classrooms and into fully immersive, high-stakes medical scenarios. From managing critical care emergencies to practicing complex clinical procedures, students would hone their skills in a risk-free, highly interactive digital environment before entering actual hospital wards.

“We are not just teaching the next generation of nurses; we are future-proofing them,” said Dr. Irineo G. Alvaro Jr., WUP President. “By bringing this world-class VR simulation platform to our region, we ensure our students have an unparalleled competitive edge both locally and globally,” he added.
Starting with an advanced VR Access Grant, enrolled first-year nursing students would get immediate, complimentary access to asynchronous VR simulation modules. This meant learning would no longer be confined to scheduled lab hours; students could continuously access clinical scenarios to master their competencies.

The Immersive Clinical Learning would allow students to experience realistic patient interactions and diverse clinical environments through ‘top-tier’ VR technology. While the Blended Training Structure, which features two specialized courses per year level, each semester, seamlessly combining asynchronous practice with expert-led synchronous sessions, would also benefit the future nurses. They would also gain global readiness by being trained on the same simulation platforms used by leading healthcare institutions worldwide.

Under the leadership of Dean Balaria, the College of Nursing continued to pioneer educational strategies that put student success first.
“This partnership with HCTI is a game-changer,” Dr. Balaria noted. “Being the first in the region to offer a fully integrated VR simulation lab means our students don’t just read about advanced procedures—they live them. We are bridging the gap between academic theory and real-world clinical confidence.”
