Following a community needs assessment (CNA) earlier conducted, Wesleyan University-Philippines, through the Wesleyan External Systems, Connections, Opportunities, and Partnerships (WESCOP) Office, headed by Dr. Eufemia C. Ayro, and the Graduate School (GS), presented its findings and proposed development programs for Barangay Sta. Arcadia, Cabanatuan City on May 26, 2026.
The initiative formed part of the University’s continuing commitment to community extension and aimed to establish a five-year collaborative development plan focusing on five key areas for intervention identified through the CNA, which included livelihood, education, health and nutrition, environment, and governance and peace and order.
GS Dean Dr. John Mark Bondoc, together with Ms. Jennifer Villaon and Prof. Milagros Antonio, presented the results of the Community Needs Assessment (CNA) to barangay officials, including Councilor Edmond Concepcion and Councilor Jessievie Corpuz. The presentation served as a venue for dialogue and coordination between the University and the local government unit regarding priority community interventions.
Barangay officials welcomed the findings and engaged in discussions, helping align the proposed programs with the actual needs and priorities of the community.
The activity was supported by representatives from various University offices, colleges, and units, reflecting a multidisciplinary approach to community development. These included WESCOP (Prof. Jose Adriano, Mr. Christian Navarro, and Christine Urmatan), the Graduate School, Office of Student Affairs (Ms. Minerva Delos Santos), Library (Ms. Lourna Manuel), University Clinic (Dr. Nerissa Longalong), Chaplaincy Office (Rev. Himlord Alfonso), College of Engineering and Computer Technology (Prof. Dolores Baldedara), College of Nursing (Prof. Mellany Lagasca), and College of Hospitality and Tourism Management (Dr. Michelle Tangonan).
Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the proposed programs support SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
With the assessment completed, both the University and Barangay Sta. Arcadia would move forward with the design and implementation of targeted programs aimed at addressing identified needs and promoting sustainable community development.
