Wesleyan University-Philippines (WUP) was among the 26 higher education institutions (HEIs) honored during Luminescence 26, an event organized by CHED Region III to celebrate outstanding achievements in the 2025 World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI).

Dr. Lora Yusi, CHED Regional Director, shared that the theme “Luminescence” was chosen to spotlight the exceptional accomplishments of the 26 HEIs recognized in the latest WURI results. She proudly reported that the number of HEIs in the region making it to the WURI Top 400 increased from just four in 2024 to fifteen in 2025. Moreover, institutions recognized in the Top 100 across various categories rose from eight to twenty-six—a significant leap that she attributed to the “bayanihan” spirit and collaborative culture nurtured within Region III.

Dr. Yusi concluded her remarks with the powerful tagline: “Tatak CHED Region III, Tatak Mahusay,” a phrase that captures the excellence and collective effort behind these achievements.

A highlight of the program was the awarding of plaques of recognition to the 26 HEIs—symbols of their unwavering dedication to delivering innovative, quality education that leaves a meaningful and lasting impact on the communities they serve.

The program also featured a segment called Lumens, where selected institutional leaders reflected on their experiences with WURI. Many candidly shared their initial apprehension in joining the rankings, but ultimately found inspiration in sharing how their initiatives positively transformed their communities.

Among the featured speakers was WUP President Irineo G. Alvaro Jr., who spoke about proactive leadership and building systems and measures before any calamity may even occur. He emphasized that transforming education requires clarity in vision, not just information. He concluded with a strong reminder: “Leadership without trust is just a noisy show.”

WUP’s recognition in WURI 2025 as the Top 45 among the 100 HEIs globally in the categories of Visionary Leadership and Crisis Management stands as a testament to its innovative spirit and commitment to transformative education.
