DUMAGUETE CITY — A delegation from Wesleyan University-Philippines conducted a benchmarking visit to the Dr. Mariano C. Lao Global Studies Center of Silliman University as part of the university’s initiatives on Open and Distance eLearning (ODeL), microcredentialing, and continuing professional development on May 11-13, 2026.

The visit was undertaken by members of the university’s ODeL Committee to study the operationalization of Open and Distance eLearning (ODeL), the Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program (ETEEAP), Microcredentialing, and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
The WUP delegation included Dr. Wilfred C. Ramos, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Juanito C. Leabres Jr., Director of the Office of Instruction; Dr. John Jason M. Villaroman, Quality Assurance Director; and Dr. Carissa Juliana R. Balaria, Dean of the College of Nursing.

During the benchmarking sessions, the delegation was guided by Russel Basiao, Manager of the Continuing Education and Professional Advancement Unit (CEPA), who served as the primary resource speaker throughout the visit.

Among the topics discussed were the use of industry-specific titles for microcredentials to align with professional marketability, and the equivalency framework used in recognizing academic units and work experience. The sessions also covered administrative processes for the evaluation and recommendation of credits, including the submission of requirements through the respective colleges before endorsement to the Registrar.

The delegation also noted discussions on the financial requirements involved in developing and maintaining microcredentialing programs, as well as their role in supporting specialized professional advancement.

The visit further highlighted requirements for Regional Quality Assessment Team (RQAT) evaluations, including the need for a functional Learning Management System (LMS), stable internet infrastructure, quality digital content, and faculty qualifications for online learning delivery.

A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between Wesleyan University-Philippines and Silliman University would be proposed to formalize the collaboration on these academic endeavors and support the management of scheduling and administrative requirements through a central hub.
