Wesleyan University-Philippines (WUP) held an Earthquake and Fire Drill and Orientation on April 3, 2025, aimed at enhancing campus safety preparedness amidst the recent earthquake incidents in different parts of the country and the world and with the dry season already starting.

The event was organized in collaboration with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Cabanatuan City, with the support of WUP’s Crisis Management Committee.

The morning orientation session took place at 8:00 AM at the JJD Garcia Auditorium. Dr. Gladys P. Mangiduyos, the University’s Vice President for Administration and Planning, kicked off the session by welcoming the attendees, which included both employees and students. The session focused on fostering awareness and readiness for potential disasters, emphasizing the importance of safety measures in everyday campus life.

Dr. Josef Z. Nacino, the University’s Safety Officer, delivered a safety briefing, providing instructions on how to respond during emergencies such as earthquakes and fires. Mr. Richard Austria, Provincial Research and Planning Division Chief, introduced the participants to the fundamentals of Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) and delivered a lecture on earthquake hazards, explaining the potential risks and the importance of being well-prepared. Mr. Darwin S. Sardanas and SFO2 Erickson M Domingo also shared their knowledge of earthquake and fire drills, ensuring that all participants understood the necessary actions to take during such an event.

The morning session concluded with closing remarks from Mr. Renato D. Salvador, the WUP Crisis Management Committee Chair, expressing gratitude to all participants for their commitment to safety and preparedness. He highlighted the importance of continued collaboration with local agencies like the PDRRMC and BFP in creating a safer environment for the entire university community.

The afternoon session saw the participation of students and employees in the actual earthquake and fire drills. The drills were carried out in three locations on campus: the Gloria D. Lacson Building (Administration Building), Carlos Mañacop Building (home to the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Business Accountancy), and the EZE Building (College of Education Building) with the PDRRMC and BFP Cabanatuan City personnel and officers.
The College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) students took an active part in the rescue demonstrations.
