Wesleyan University-Philippines (WUP), through the Human Resources Development Office (HRDO) and the Office of Instruction, conducted the 2026 Onboarding Seminar for Newly Hired Faculty and Staff on July 13, 2026, at the JJD Garcia Auditorium.Held from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the seminar provided newly hired personnel with orientation on outcomes-based instruction, institutional policies, digital learning platforms, and employee responsibilities to support their integration into the University.

A total of 66 newly hired employees from the Cushman and Tarlac Campuses participated in the onboarding seminar. The new hires included 60 faculty members, 55 from the Cushman Campus and five from the Tarlac Campus; and 23 staff members, 21 from the Cushman Campus and two from the Tarlac Campus.

The morning session opened with remarks from Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Wilfredo C. Ramos, who welcomed the participants and underscored the role of faculty members in delivering quality education and upholding the University’s academic standards.

The academic sessions began with Dr. John Mark F. Bondoc, Dean of the Graduate School, who discussed Designing OBE-Aligned Syllabi through Constructive Alignment.

Dean Bondoc walked educators through the systematic process of mapping Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs) directly to Teaching and Learning Activities (TLAs) and assessment tasks, underscoring that a modern syllabus must serve as an active blueprint, in which every lesson and activity has a measurable, outcome-driven purpose.

His discussion was followed by Dr. Maureen D. Bondoc, who presented Teaching and Learning Strategies in Outcomes-Based Education. Her session focused on student-centered methodologies that shift the classroom dynamic from passive listening to active engagement. Dr. Bondoc highlighted practical techniques designed to foster critical thinking, collaborative problem-solving, and adaptive learning environments.

Addressing the critical metrics of learner success, Prof. Jhon Carlo S. Villa, Interim Dean of the College of Education, discussed Effective Assessment and Evaluation in Outcomes-Based Education. He provided faculty members with tools to design both formative and summative assessments that accurately gauge student competency, emphasizing that evaluation must be transparent, criteria-based, and explicitly linked back to course objectives.

The morning program concluded with a session on Registrar Policies, Grading System, and Academic Records Compliance, facilitated by University Registrar Atty. Lyndon John S. De Leon. He briefed the incoming faculty on the policies and procedures governing academic records. The session detailed the standards of the WUP grading policies, submission deadlines, and the absolute necessity of administrative accuracy.

The afternoon session commenced with welcome remarks from Vice President for Administration and Planning Dr. Gladys P. Mangiduyos.
She introduced the University’s anchor concept, GPS (Grounded at purpose, Prepared to serve, Steadfast excellence), and challenged the new hires to understand their strategic roles within the institution, emphasizing the ‘necessity of bridging brilliance with execution’ while fostering a deeply collaborative environment, and reminding attendees that “We are all in this together.”

The succeeding discussions focused on the University’s operational systems and support services. Prof. Patrick M. Flores demonstrated the use of Microsoft Teams and the University’s Automate system for uploading grades and course syllabi.

University Librarian Dr. Carmelita A. Tiglao discussed library resources and instructional preparations. She urged the newly hired faculty and staff to maximize the use of the University’s electronic resources and online research databases to enhance teaching and learning.

Highlighting WUP’s firm commitment to creating a safe, confidential, and supportive space for both students and employees, Dr. Jaziel Naomi C. Reyes, OIC-Director of the Gender and Development Office, presented the University’s Gender and Development policies. She emphasized that the institution ensures individuals receive specialized counseling, professional intervention, and legal support when necessary.

The seminar concluded with Dr. Abraham A. Pascua, CESO III, Director of the Human Resources Development Office, who discussed HRDO policies, faculty and staff responsibilities, and employee benefits.

Dr. Pascua opened his discussion with the “Parable of the Lighthouse,” sharing the key lesson that “Rules are prepared not for our personal convenience; Rules are made to protect us from risks,” before detailing the university’s human resource structures, employee responsibilities, and benefits.

“As we step into our classrooms and offices, we carry not only a clear understanding of the university’s technical systems but also a renewed alignment with the WUP mission to develop competent human resources imbued with Wesleyan spirituality,” commented Stephanie S. Bautista, new marketing staff at the Public Information Office.

The onboarding seminar formed part of the University’s faculty and staff development initiatives, providing newly hired personnel with orientation on academic practices, institutional policies, and administrative procedures before assuming their respective assignments.
