Seventeen graduates of Wesleyan University-Philippines (WUP) passed the August 2026 Guidance Counselors Computer-Based Licensure Examination (GCLE), based on the results released by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) on August 24, 2026.

The successful examinees include 16 graduates from the Cushman Campus and one graduate from the Maria Aurora Campus.

Based on the same PRC results, WUP was recognized as one of the country’s top producers of newly licensed guidance counselors, alongside Muslim Mindanao Integrated College Academy, Inc. – Marawi with 47 passers, Philippine Normal University – Manila with 44 passers, and Saint Paul University – Manila with 33 passers.

Nationwide, 614 out of 923 examinees passed the August 2026 GCLE.

The licensure results were released days after Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sonny Angara announced that the department is hiring 10,000 guidance counselor associates in 2026. In an interview aired on Balitanghali on August 19, 2026, Angara said DepEd needs approximately 48,000 guidance counselor associates to achieve a ratio of one guidance personnel per school.

He also noted the limited supply of licensed guidance counselors in the country, explaining that candidates must first complete a master’s degree before becoming eligible to take the licensure examination.

“Nagha-hire tayo ng 10,000 school counselor associates, pero wala tayong ma-hire na guidance counselors dahil yung mga guidance counselors kailangan pa ng master’s degree… kulang po talaga ang supply all over the country,” Angara said.

In response to the growing demand for qualified guidance professionals, Dr. John Mark F. Bondoc, Dean of the WUP Graduate School, said the University offers graduate programs that prepare students for GCLE eligibility.

“We offer Master of Education with specialization in Guidance and Counselling and Master of Arts in Education major in Guidance and Counselling. These are programs that would make one qualify to take the GCLE, ” Bondoc said.
