Despite the gloomy weather, the much-awaited Palarong Wesleyan 2025 commenced on September 29, 2025, with an enthusiastic and colorful Parade of Colleges and a symbolic torch-lighting ceremony, officially marking the start of a week-long celebration of athleticism, camaraderie, and school pride.
With the theme “Crowned at 80: Play for Purpose, Rise for Glory,” the Wesleyan community came together to honor the eight powerhouse teams competing in various sports and cultural events:CON Lions, CBA Dragons, CAMS Vipers, CCJE Stallions, CECT Tiger Sharks, CHTM Phoenix, CAS Eagles, and CoEd Wolves.
The morning program opened with a Prayer and Devotion led by University Chaplain Rev. Dr. Francis Fajardo, who set the tone for the games by reminding the community of the true spirit of sportsmanship.
“Manalo man o matalo, may we remain faithful to each other,” he said, urging athletes and spectators alike to uphold respect and camaraderie above competition.
Carrying the same message of unity, University President Dr. Irineo G. Alvaro Jr. delivered his words of encouragement, highlighting that Palarong Wesleyan is not solely about winning but about strengthening bonds within the community.
“Hindi lang sentro sa pagiging number one ang ating tingin, kundi sentrohin natin ang paggawa at paglago ng pagkakaibigan at pagsasama-sama bilang isang komunidad ng Wesleyan,” Dr. Alvaro urged.
The highlight of the ceremony was the Torch Lighting, led by Dranred Clyde Espiritu, MVP in Volleyball and National PRISAA Region III representative, followed by the Oath of Sportsmanship delivered by Debbie Jean Dagasdas, MVP in Volleyball and Women’s Basketball.
At the end of the opening ceremony, Dr. Efraim Vidal, OIC of Cultural Affairs and Sports Development Office (CASDO), officially declared the start of the intramurals.
Following the ceremonies, the teams proceeded to the University Gymnasium for the continuation of Day 1 events, which featured the Bench Yell Showdown, Dance Sports Competition, and the much-anticipated Mister & Miss Palaro 2025 competition.
