Wesleyan University-Philippines Alumni Association, Inc. (WUPAAI) marked two milestones on November 28, 2025, through the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the WUP Alumni Event Center and Hostel and the Dedication Ceremony of the WUPAAI Office, led by Ms. Enrica S. Francisco (WUPAAI President), together with the association’s officers and the Alumni Affairs Office, headed by Dr. Joepet G. Portana (Director).
The groundbreaking ceremony formally launched the construction of the WUP Alumni Event Center and Hostel, which will be built on the vacant lot adjacent to the Alumni Affairs Office. The planned facility is envisioned to serve as a venue for alumni gatherings, university-related activities, and accommodations for visiting alumni, strengthening alumni engagement and institutional support.
Dr. Irineo G. Alvaro, Jr. (WUP President) expressed his delight at the development and noted the University administration’s commitment to work with the alumni. He highlighted that the alumni collectively are one of the ‘most important’ contributors to the institution.
According to Dr. Eufemia C. Ayro, former Alumni Affairs Office Director, the seed money for the construction of the Alumni Event Center and Hostel was generated from the proceeds of the fundraising concert “Lakbayin” for Bahay Alumni, held on February 18, 2023, organized with former WUPAAI President Mr. Carlito Fernando.
Furthermore, Dr. Portana shared that the documentary requirements are currently being complied with, so that by January 2026, the initial phase of construction can proceed.
“This has been a long-dreamed project, and the alumni members and other contributors deserve to see the project come into reality,” he added.
Following the groundbreaking, the WUPAAI Office—located beside the Business Center at the University Food Gallery—was formally dedicated. The office would be the central hub for alumni coordination, leadership, and service initiatives, reinforcing the strong and continuing partnership between the University and its alumni.
The twin ceremonies were also attended by select university officials, members of the Board of Trustees, Mrs. Zenaida Del Rosario, former Vice President and concurrent Secretary of WUPAAI, representatives from the Chaplaincy Office, some WUP employees, and alumni.
