Alumni of the College of Education (CoEd) of Wesleyan University-Philippines (WUP) recorded passing rates higher than the national averages in both the Elementary and Secondary levels of the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (LEPT) administered in September and November 2025, based on data released by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).
For the Elementary level, WUP posted an overall passing rate of 62.50%, with 30 passers, which is 11.41% higher than the national overall passing rate of 51.09%. Of the 30 passers, 28 were first-time takers, who achieved a 77.89% passing rate, exceeding the national average for first-time takers of 73.81%. The remaining two passers were repeat takers.
Among the newly licensed professional elementary teachers from WUP was Ms. Valerie Santiago, an alumna of the University’s Support for the Handicapped and Their Rehabilitation through Education (SHARE) program, a special program pioneered by WUP in Central Luzon that provides educational opportunities for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing individuals. According to Dr. Lucille Grace C. Hilario, Dean of CoEd, Ms. Santiago is the first Deaf graduate of the Bachelor of Elementary Education program in Nueva Ecija to pass the LEPT on her first attempt.
CoEd started mainstreaming the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students in their programs in the Academic Year (AY) 2018-2019. Two graduated in 2023. In AY 2021-2022, Ms. Santiago, along with two others, enrolled in the CoEd programs.
“As of this academic year, we have three enrolled [Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing] students. They are now in [their] second year,” Dr. Hilario added.
For the Secondary level, WUP produced 65 passers, translating to an 84.49% overall passing rate, which is 11.79% higher than the national overall average of 72.63%. Among first-time takers, 61 out of 64 passed, resulting in a 95.31% passing rate, or 13.39% higher than the national average for first-time takers. The remaining four passers were repeat takers.
PRC data posted on December 18, 2025, showed that nationwide, 21,967 out of 43,035 examinees passed the Elementary level of the LEPT, while 57,729 out of 79,493 examinees passed the Secondary level. The examinations were conducted on September 21 and November 30, 2025, in 45 testing centers across the Philippines, Hong Kong, and Thailand.
