Wesleyan University-Philippines (WUP) marked another milestone in its internationalization journey toward global recognition and academic excellence with its participation in the Times Higher Education (THE) World Academic Summit 2025 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on October 7 to 9, 2025.

Ms. Rio Anne Dizon, Director of the Office of International and Local Linkages and Head Executive Assistant to the President, and Prof. Kay Ann Tongol, Dean of the College of Allied Medical Sciences, represented WUP.

The three-day summit gathered global university leaders, policymakers, and researchers to explore innovation and collaboration toward achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). This marked WUP’s first-ever participation in a THE world event.

“This is a major step toward our University’s aspiration to be included in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings,” Ms. Dizon noted.
As part of their visit, the WUP delegates toured KAUST’s ‘world-class’ research and innovation facilities, showcasing advanced laboratories at the forefront of science and technology. They likewise met with KAUST President Dr. Edward Byrne AC, engaging in discussions about potential partnerships and future opportunities for student internships and faculty immersion.

The summit also featured representation from Philippine higher education leaders, including UP President Angelo Jimenez, Vice President for Research and Innovation Joel Joseph Marciano, MSU-IIT Chancellor Alizedney Ditucalan, and Vice Chancellor Yaslani Bantuas.

Chancellor Carmen Zita Lamagna and Senior Assistant Professor Dulce Lamagna of the American International University of Bangladesh were also in attendance.

Through this participation, WUP reaffirmed its commitment to fostering global academic collaboration, advancing research excellence, and promoting sustainability through education — embodying the spirit of a ‘world-class’ institution.
