As part of its internationalization efforts, Wesleyan University-Philippines (WUP), led by University President Dr. Irineo G. Alvaro Jr., recently visited Taiwan Mirror TV and National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) to strengthen existing partnerships and explore new academic collaborations. At Taiwan Mirror TV, Dr. Alvaro met with network executives to discuss Project LAKBAY, WUP’s English proficiency program that blends language learning with travel and cultural experience in the central plains of the Philippines. The program aims to make learning English both fun and meaningful for international students.
“Project LAKBAY is more than just a language program; it is an invitation to experience the warmth, hospitality, and culture of the Filipino people while learning English in a real-world environment,” shared Dr. Alvaro. “Our partnership with Taiwan Mirror TV helps us share this vision with a wider audience, especially in Taiwan and other Asian countries.”
The WUP delegation also met with NTNU President Dr. Cheng-Chih Wu and his team for an exploratory meeting focused on potential collaborations in English and Mandarin language learning, and faculty and student exchanges.
Dr. Alvaro expressed optimism about the discussions, noting how these partnerships expand learning opportunities for the Wesleyan community.
“International partnerships like these reflect our commitment to broaden learning horizons for both students and faculty,” he said. “We believe that through cooperation, we can build bridges of understanding and opportunity.”
